Work
This work has bubbled up on the last year largely in response to an online residency, based in Serbia, I did in 2023; together with a group of artists from around the world. It came out of looking back at my work over the years, especially my earliest "Salsa" paintings. Those began as explorations of spatial experience but they accidentally recorded musical experience (it was playing in the background, who knew). This new work is intentionally musical; exploring rhythm, repetition, motion within compositional structure, seeking to visually embody the visceral experience of music within a painterly vocabulary.

This is my latest studio/gallery in Guerneville California showing a few of the works highlighted below.

Full Ochestra
8'X8'
Ink jet prints, fabric, paint
2024
This was the breakthrough piece. It broke open when I had two copies of the same 8'square image and tore one of them up to reassemble on top of the original. The resulting dislocation and repetition was dynamic in several respects. The evolution proceeded from there resulting in a strong composition incorporating many musical elements such as repetition, movement, depth and variation on a theme.

Twp details showing the semi sculptural effect. The metaphor of being "all torn up" did occur.
Improv
3'X4'
Inkjet prints, fabric, ink
2024

This smaller piece is more like a song than a symphony.

8'X8'
Ink jet prints on paper and silk, oil stick, ink, fabric
2025

This is the second the the musical series. It is more lyrical and less strident than Full Orchestra. Pretty but deep.

Untitled
Vellum, printed silk, ink, pencil
10'X5'
2024
Simultaneously I have been working on wall pieces that explore the same issues in a looser format. The drama of light is another perennial interst.
